Dog AID's History
Dog AID is based on the successful American organisation called Top Dog. The original idea of the scheme was to help people with physical disabilities train their own pet dogs.
Internationally acclaimed behaviourist, John Rogerson, together with co-founder, Dolores Palmer, are responsible for adapting this idea for the needs of people with physical disabilities in the UK. In 1992 a pilot scheme was set up in the Midlands and so Dog AID was born.
Since then we have certified over 30 dogs to Assistance Level.
Dog AID Today
Today, Dog AID is a national voluntary organisation accredited by the National and International umbrella groups which uphold the high standards required for Assistance Dog training.
Since its conception in 1992, we have given demonstrations of the work we do at many shows around the country, including the dog event of the year; Crufts.
Our demonstrations allow you to see some of the things dogs can be trained to do to become vital Assistants to people with a variety of disabilities.
In 2009 Dog A.I.D. welcomed some new committee members and said goodbye to others, a new fundraising committee was created and with this solid foundation 2010 promises to be a great year for all.
